Location of Fukuoka
Fukuoka Prefecture is located in North East of Kyushu and is the important base for transportation between Kyushu and Honshu. While Tokyo is 1,100km away, Fukuoka is closer to other major cities in Asia including Seoul (540km) and Shanghai (870km). This convenient location has helped Fukuoka grow as Japan’s gateway to overseas and it has always been playing a crucial part for the international relations.
It takes 1.5 hours from Tokyo and one hour from Osaka by airplane. Many flights are also available to get to Okinawa (1.5 hours), Miyazaki (40 mins) and other destinations throughout the nation. If traveling by bullet train, it takes 5 hours to get to Tokyo, 2.5 hours to Osaka. There is an international sea line between Hakata and Pusan port. In addition to domestic flights, international flights are also available at Fukuoka International Airport. Destinations include Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Hawaii and other major cities in Asia.
