Section of Ophthalmology

This section was newly established in 2009. Our physicians, certified by the Japanese Ophthalmological Society or board-eligible and preparing for certification, are involved in eye care of patients, scientific research and education. We strive to provide the most advanced medical and surgical care available anywhere in the world with sophisticated diagnostic and surgical instruments and treatments. Our services range from comprehensive primary eye care to the management of specialized vision-threatening eye disorders including uveitis, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy.
We also offer focused education to our dental students on the basis of ophthalmology, since some kinds of eye diseases have certain pathogenesis in common with dental and oral disorders and we believe future dentists with such global knowledge of both dentistry and medicine should contribute to the promotion of patients’ health.

Research
Our research has aimed to develop new cures for ocular and orbital inflammatory diseases, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular diseases. Immunological, molecular approaches should be standout areas of us.
