 He received his D.D.S. from the Faculty of Dentistry Niigata University in 1980 and entered the Department of Preventive Dentistry of the faculty. During his two years’ clinical fellow, he put a lot of effort to diffuse “fluoride mouthrinse program for caries prevention” through elementary schools in Niigata Prefecture. In Niigata University Graduate School of Dentistry, he wrote his doctoral thesis “A study of the relationship between fluoride intake and its concentrations in plasma and bone of female rats and their newborn pups.” under the guidance of Prof. Horii K. After his Ph.D. he accepted a position as an assistant professor in Hiroshima University Faculty of Dentistry in 1986. In addition to education, research and practice, he served as a member of the committee on dental health in Hiroshima City in cooperation with doctors and public health nurses. In 1990, he moved to Fukuoka Dental College as an assistant professor in the Department of Preventive and Public Health Dentistry and later promoted to a lecturer and to an associate professor. At FDC, he was engaged in education, research and practice on preventing tooth decays, periodontal diseases and oral malodors before, but now mainly in education and research on Social Dentistry.
