Graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry, Kyushu Dental College in 1986 (D.D.S.). Earned his Ph.D. from Department of Periodontology and Endodontology, and Department of Biochemistry, Kyushu Dental College Graduate School in 1992. Post-doctoral stay in Temple University in Philadelphia, U.S.A. in 1993 and Fox Chase Cancer Center, U.S.A. in 1994, visiting scientist in University of Washington, U.S.A. in 2001. Appointed Assistant Professor at Kyushu Dental College in 1995, Assistant Professor at Fukuoka Dental College in 2004, Associate Professor at Fukuoka Dental College in 2009 and Professor at Fukuoka Dental College in 2013.
Has focused his research on the relationship between oral health and systemic health, the quality of life in the geriatric population, medical informatics and behaviors of medical consumers. He is an editorial member of The Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice (Elsevier Science), and Evidence-Based Dentistry (Nature Publishing).
