 He graduated from Faculty of Medicine, Kyushu University in 1982 and entered Department of Ophthalmology, Kyushu University. He made the study on tumor metastasis and immunity at Medical Institute of Bioregulation, Kyushu University and was awarded Ph.D. From 1990 to 1992, he studied abroad at National Eye Institute (part of National Institutes of Health), the US, where he conducted research on the immunotherapy model of experimental autoimmune uveitis.
 After returning from the US, he served as an assistant professor and later as a lecturer at Kyushu University. There he conducted clinical research on the pharmacotherapy treatment for refractory uveitis such as Behcet's disease and Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease and on the surgical treatment for ocular complications of these inflammatory diseases under the guidance of Dr. Hajime Inomata. At clinic, he also took charge of treatment for ocular tumors in ophthalmological area such as palpebral tumor, orbital tumor and retinoblastoma in addition to general ocular diseases.
 In 2004 he moved to Hamanomachi General Hospital as a chief of ocular surgery section, and provided surgeries for general ocular diseases.
 In April 2011, he came to Fukuoka Dental College as the professor of Section of Ophthalmology, Department of Medicine. He aim to contribute to research and education of oral medicine based on immunological approach, making use of his considerable experience in clinical practice.
